How to generate image alt text in bulk

The Image tool is a Beta feature available on paid plans. If you haven’t used it before, see Generate alt text for a batch of images for a guided first run.

Select Image alt text in the sidebar, then drop in whichever of these matches where your images live. You don’t pick a mode first — the type is detected from what you drop:

  • Upload images — one or many image files straight from your device.
  • ZIP archive — images already collected in a folder: compress it and drop the .zip rather than selecting files one by one.
  • CSV of image URLs — a column of links, for images already hosted online (a CMS, product catalog, or CDN). Nothing uploads from your device, which makes this the fastest path for large batches.

If you’re unsure: prefer the CSV whenever your images already have public web addresses, and reserve file or ZIP upload for images that only exist locally. Use Add more to extend a selection before submitting. For exact size and count limits, see Project types and file limits.

Expand Branding & context and set any of:

  • Brand name(s) — so our tool names your brand or logo correctly instead of describing it generically.
  • Website — your domain, as further grounding.
  • Products — product names our tool can’t infer from the image alone.
  • Partners — third-party brands that appear in your images, such as payment logos.
  • Tone — the voice you want the descriptions written in.

These fields apply to every image in the batch. If different images need very different context, split them into separate projects.

The same Glossary and Description profile pickers you get on a video project are here too, for recurring people, characters, or terms — see Build a glossary of characters and terms.

Then select Generate descriptions.

  1. Submit the batch and wait for processing to finish.
  2. Open the review screen. Each image shows its assigned category and an editable AI-generated alt text.
  3. If a description needs a correction, edit the text directly — edits save immediately and don’t trigger regeneration. For what each operation costs, see Plans and credit costs.
  4. If an image’s category is wrong (for example, it’s decorative but was categorized as informative, or vice versa), correct the category too.
  1. From the project view, choose Export.
  2. Select CSV or JSON depending on what your downstream system expects.
  3. Download the file and import it into your CMS, product catalog, or wherever the alt text needs to live.

For per-image credit costs at different batch sizes, see Plans and credit costs.
